Yesterday was Halloween. We went to the kitchen on the third floor where the Americans were gathering. There were also a few Austrians. People had dressed up. Many were zombies, there were a few devils. I wrapped one of Will’s black t-shirts around my head to make myself into a ninja. Will made me some paper throwing stars, but people still teased me about being dressed as a Muslim woman. Will was an Xbox; he took the faceplate off of one and hung it around his neck and he brought a game and tied a controller to his belt loop.
Then we all went out together. I changed and Will took off his accessories before we left. We ended up at a club that looked way too crowded and had a cover charge. Some people went in, but five of us had no interest, so we went to some place less crowded and noisy. There were quite a lot of people dressed up. Mostly zombies, devils, and witches. We also saw a bunch of Jokers from Batman.
I was surprised by all of the activity, since I asked some of my students about it and they all said they weren’t going to do anything for Halloween. One advantage they have for celebrating here is that All Saints Day on November first is a holiday. That means no work for many and no classes for students.
On a related note, all of the Simpsons episodes aired lately have been Halloween specials, which is awesome.
I was wondering about Halloween and if they had it over there. I watched a show last night on the history channel and aparently it all started in Europe? I am glad you got to celebrate Halloween. I was thinking because it is the “Eve of all Saints” they would have that there.
Glad you enjoyed Halloween in Austria! Nowadays, children around here go to parties at the community center, school, etc. and don’t go out Trick or Treating. Eldon refuses to give up the tradition so he DROVE the Halloween candy over to the neighbor kids. They had to put on their Halloween costumes for him. So Eldon had a wonderful Halloween too. And I’m enjoying the remaining Snicker bars!
