Well, I went yesterday to meet with some of the teachers I’ll be working with this school year. They seem very nice and I think this could be a lot of fun. They seem to actually want me to be more of a friend than a teacher to the students so that they feel more at ease talking to me. I’m teaching at a teacher training college. When I applied for the program, I thought I would be placed in a secondary school, which is where I’d like to teach when I go back to the States. Again, and the teacher I met with mentioned this, the students I will be teaching will be better behaved and more motivated than secondary school students, but I won’t be getting the most useful experience. It will still be awesome and useful, just not the most useful for my career goals. Maybe I could do some extra volunteer work or tutoring.
Things are going really well on every other front. Will seems to be settling in well. We went to the bank again today to get a document so that I can get paid (very important). We also got a statement to show the people at the foreigners office that we have financial means so that we could pick up our residency permits. We are now officially legal short term residents of Austria. Yay!
I like the term “short term”. Glad to here all is swell.
