Oktoberfest

Well, we got here from Salzburg last night, dropped our stuff off at the hostel and then headed out to the fest.  We wandered a bit and looked at all the rides (just looking at them is enough of a thrill for me).  Then we got a seat at a beer garden and had a giant mug each.  We sat by an American pair from California and got to chatting; it was fun.  Then we went back to the hostel to collapse.

This morning, we had breakfast and headed out to another part of town where there are shops and a few street performers.  After that, we came back to the hostel to rest a bit before going back to the fest.  We bought a decorated gingerbread heart and we split a big pretzel.  We sat for a while on a grassy hill in the shade, and then decided we should find a place in a beer garden to order some food.  Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find a place to sit and we don’t really care for crowded areas, so we decided to find a place closer to the hostel.  Nothing really looked appealing, and we were tired, so we decided to come back to the room and rest a bit more.  I don’t know about Will, but my legs and feet are pretty sore.  So now I’m blogging; it’s 7:22 p.m. and we still need to go back out later to find food.

Oktoberfest is crazy.  Really crowded; I’d hate to be there on a weekend.  One neat thing about being here though is that if you find other English speakers, it’s really easy to talk to them.  Also, we’re staying in a room of bunk beds with ten strangers, so that’s interesting, too.
