The Saturday

Saturday was a busy day. We didn’t have bed sheets, so we kind of made due. There were pillows and weird blankets. They do things a little different over here. Instead of having a blanket, you get a liner, and some interior insulation. The things the dorm provided us are the insulation bit. We need the lines to make them, how shall I say, not weird?

Anyway, one of the pillows was gross, so we threw that in the corner. I gave Mary Jo my pillow and she used one of the shirts to fashion a pillow case. I used my coat. Trust me, I’ve used worse for a pillow. Shoes come to mind…

Mary Jo slept in a bit. She had a hard time getting to sleep. I was out like a light and was early to rise. I did a little reading on the awesome Nook before she got up.

Once we were both up, we hit the internet cafe and plotted a course to Ikea for bed sheets, towels, and the like. We ended up taking a train back to the main train station, then hopping a bus down to Ikea. It was pretty fun actually. Hard to find the bus, but fun none the less.

On the way down there, I noticed another insane tower like on the train and in Frankfurt. I managed to snap a picture on the way back. I’ve seen three of these in two countries now. I’m going to find out what the heck it is.

Tower

We got down to Ikea and started the shopping trip. Well, by “started the shopping trip”, I mean had lunch at the cafe. Meatballs, potatoes, and dessert. YUM! Then we actually got shopping. We found the stuff, and left. We had about an hour before the return bus left, so we went over to what we though was a small collection of stores. Yeah, we found a full on mall. Clothing stores, candle shows, restaurants, a full super market, a Toys R Us, and an electronics store, to name a few. Cool beans.

We didn’t buy anything, mainly because we were already over-packed. We killed a little time, then hopped the bus back to the train station. We got to the train station and planned on hopping the train back home. We’ll, the train wasn’t running. Something about an event had is shut down. Ask Mary Jo, she’s the one that read the sign. It told us to us a bus. We did… but we kind of got on the wrong one. We discovered the error quickly and got off.

We barely missed the bus we actually wanted, so we sat around at the bus stop for 30 minutes until the next one showed up. Mary Jo was sad.

Sad Mary Jo

Once we were on that, it was easy to get home. We got back to the room and unloaded. We had hoped to go grocery shopping, since most stores are closed on Sunday, but we missed the closing time. That means we need to eat at restaurants tomorrow. Darn.

Since we missed out on buying food to make, we popped down to the festival they were having just as it was closing up. You know what, I’m not even sure what the name of the festival was! Oh well. We had some currywurst. Take a guess as to what that is. It was OK. A little spicy. I guess it’s a “traditional” food though, so good to try it. I’d eat it again, but I’d try something new first. After that, I dragged Mary Jo down to an ice cream place and we each got a cone. She had tiramasu and I had “sky blue”. I even ordered my own cone in German. I didn’t get yelled at and I got my cone, so mission success!

We’re now back at the room jotting down some blog posts to go up whenever we get internet access. The new rug and bed sheets really make the place warmer. It’s nice. Now that we have towels, we even got to take showers! Oh, I needed that. Weird thing though: the bathroom like has a timer on it. You turn it on, then it turns itself off X minutes later. It got me. I was just getting out of the shower and it went off. That’s on the list of things to ask the dorm secretary on Monday. 😀
