In the interest of archiving this information in case we ever come back, and also to recommend places, here’s a rundown of where we stayed during The Big Trip.
Residenza Santa Croce
Santa Croce 555
Venice, Italy
Very nice hostel. We got a double room for about the same price as a shared dorm room. Our room had a refrigerator, electric kettle, and was just more like a hotel room than a hostel room.
1 Step from St Peter
Via Giovanni Bettolo, 52
Rome, Italy
Very nice bed and breakfast. Great location, and the owner is very nice. It also wasn’t too bad price wise. Highly recommended.
Hostal Reise
Maria Auxiliadora,13
Salamanca, Spain
Probably the “worst” hostel we stayed at. It was still fairly nice, just in comparison to places like 1 Step from St. Peter it wasn’t so great. The bed in particular was really small and would squeak if you so much as looked at it. But, it was so incredibly cheap for a double room (25 Euro/night) that it’s hard to complain about it.
Astor Quest
45 Queensborough Terrace
Bayswater, London, England
Decent hostel. We were in a shared dorm, and this place is much more oriented to the younger crowd. So, it got the job done, but I don’t see us staying there again, mainly because we’re just getting too old for the kind of lifestyle that most people staying there follow.
Four Courts Hostel
15/17 Merchants Quay
Christchurch (Adjacent to Temple Bar)
Dublin, Ireland
Very nice hostel. Even though we were in a 16 bed dorm, it was still rather quiet and quite pleasant. Recommended thoroughly.
