Well, this is a late post. We’re already back in the States… and it’s been a few days, so this might be mostly a product my imagination. We’ll see how it goes.
Friday morning was just us time. We Internetted and rested from the big night we had. At around 1PM, we walked up to the train station to meet Gretchen. Ben was nearly done with class, so we went down to the next big square and had mashed potato cups until he arrived. OK, these mashed potato cups need some mentioning.
It starts with a guy scooping out boiled potatoes (whole potatoes mind you) from a pan. He puts them in a big press, and mashes them into a cup. Then he adds whatever toppings you ordered (we got sour cream and chive), mixes in some milk and butter, then mixes it all up with a fork. It’s kind of a neat concept. Sorta like a potato Blizzard, if you will.
Once Ben arrived, we headed out toward this castle in Munich.
It’s actually a giant ring. That’s just the center part. It was really weird actually. Most castles are square and big. This place was ringish and big. All I know is that we were excited to be there.
Well, we were either excited, or suffering some sort of seizure. It can be hard to tell.
The little pond in front of the castle was home to a number of water fouls.
Gretchen is really into tormenting birds. So, she attacked a few. And by “attacked”, I mean “tried to hug”.
The palace is also home to the mysterious ground geese. They burrow into the ground to make their homes. Twenty or thirty of these will make a colony. You need to be careful because they’ll pop right up out of their mounds and bite you.
I of course made all that up.

After looking at the gift shop, we popped into the garden for a bit.
We didn’t get much of a chance to look around. There was an ominous looking storm coming in, so we elected to run away from the very not indoors park. All we really got to see was a baby sandwich.
Sorry, it was just creepy and we had to share.
We headed back into the city, made a quick stop off at Ben’s place, then went to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. We ate heartily and chatted for a couple hours. Before saying goodnight, we had a quick drink at a little coffee shop. Then Ben and Gretchen showed us to our train and we said goodbye. It’s OK though. Gretchen will be back in the States in a few months.
We spent the evening doing a little packing and just trying to rest. The next morning would be our last hours in Europe.
